Donald Mays |
Socialization - and the rights that mental health consumers have to partake in recreational and leisure activities - are a big part of what CSPNJ Advocate Donald Mays works towards in his job.
While music is his passion, he also enjoys encouraging others to get involved - whether it be in his work with "The Gathering" (an outreach program for boarding home residents that is sponsored
by the MHA of Southwestern New Jersey), his experience with the same MHA as a consultant/activities coordinator or through his influence in helping other consumers to attend local and national
mental health consumers conferences.
A graduate of the Consumer Connections core training program, Mays also belongs to the Peer Outreach Support Team that is run out of the Voorhees Self Help Center. There, he has learned how to
develop presentations, build self help center membership and promote community awareness. "I am not afraid to speak up for the rights we deserve", Mays said.
