History

As a mission-based, consumer/survivor driven organization, CSP-NJ exists to provide consumer driven mental health services that support recovery and promote community living. CSP-NJ has created a consumer driven alternative to the traditional mental health system. This movement was an outgrowth of the realization that many recipients of mental health services can provide the unique expertise to design and implement services that persons in recovery can rely upon to improve the quality of their lives. Since 1985, CSP-NJ has developed programs based on a philosophy of mutual aid that is not primarily diagnosis focused and embraces the fact that there is always hope.

CSP-NJ has grown from a small grassroots consumer group to a state wide organization demonstrating the success of our service philosophy. The board of CSP-NJ believe in the importance of creating innovative and empowering services, either by replicating state of the art service programs or independently designing new supportive service models.

CSP-NJ has established partnerships with a wide range of organizations that share our purpose which is to enhance the lives of individuals with mental illness. CSP-NJ has working partnerships with organizations such as Mental Health Association in New Jersey, Supportive Housing Association, Coalition of Mental Health Consumer Organizations, Consumer Provider Association and GROW.
