CSP Wellness Promotion Program

The wellness model examines the total persons despite one's state of health. Wellness calls for continually being aware of and making personal choices to renew/improve/develop oneself in life potentials. Wellness is more than the absence of illness and dedicates itself to the total being, mind, body and spirit. It is a new possibility for mental health consumers and professionals as well as a new program model for the mental health service delivery system.

Wellness is a lifestyle in which the individual assumes an active role in determining his/her level of wellness.

Wellness is a process, awareness that there is no end point, but that all health and happiness are ALWAYS possible in the present moment, here and now. It is a way of thinking we adopt that affects how we live our life day-by-day, hour-by- hour, moment by moment. Wellness is the complete integration of body, mind and spirit and it is the realization that everything we do, think, feel and believe has an effect on the state of our well being. Wellness is a choice, a decision we can make to improve the quality of our life.

Wellness Model

:: Attitude and belief system influence feelings, thinking and behavior (glass half full rather than half empty).

:: Control over self and environment promotes sense of mastery rather than provider in control position (Individual is empowered rather than provider in power position.)
     Explore choices and options available.
Flexible to meet individuals needs in the context of their environment.

:: Wellness Framework: Focus on a person's strengths and wellness potentials* rather than illness and limitations (Spiritual potential is acknowledged rather than viewed as pathology)

:: Provider/supporter in the role of 'consultant'.

:: Promote internal motivation and personal responsibility rather than reliance on external interventions (Medication is only one component in the process of recovery).

:: Engagement in meaningful productive activity (as defined by the individual) has strong health promoting value.

*Wellness Framework includes a focus on the following life potentials:      Physical, Spiritual, Mental/Emotional, Social, Intellectual, Environment, Occupational, Economic
